Sharing My World – October 2, 2017

The summer rain storms have started, we had 2 today. The smells of a thunderstorm are incredible and the wet earth smell afterward when everything is moist and alive are second to none.

Now, moving on to the reason for this post – Cee’s questions today are most interesting.

If you were given the opportunity to ride in a helicopter would go?

Oh yes, without a doubt! At one stage I considered learning how to fly one and opted out because of the cost. It costs more to learn to fly a helicopter than a small plane. My favourite helicopter is the Screaming Mimi from the 80s TV series Riptide. Do you remember it? My sister, brother and I didn’t miss an episode :-). I was sad when it ended.

What are some of your favorite type of proteins to eat? (meat, seafood, eggs, soy, cheese, nuts)

I eat fish and seafood, mostly when I am out and about because it is easy to get and prevents me from having to eat a carb-heavy meal. Most restaurants cater pasta for non-meat eaters and that is just sad. A friend who was studying to be a chef told me that it just was not worth, financially, catering for vegetarians because there aren’t many compared to non-vegetarians.

When I am in control of my food, I eat vegetarian protein – I love dahl and chickpeas. I’m not a fan of tofu. Incredulously there are still people who think that vegetarians don’t eat protein. I once worked with someone who was convinced that chicken was vegetarian – true story. There is also the story of a fellow toastmaster who looked at me with sad eyes, and in a sad voice asked me, “Why don’t you like meat?” South Africa is a meat country, part of the national culture and cuisine. It is not that I don’t like meat, I choose not to eat it because my body is healthier without eating it. I’m not against people eating meat and have no issue with cooking it for my guests – Che does the tasting for me. I’m going raw vegan for a month to see what that is like and I’m looking forward to shedding some kgs.

What would be your preference, awake before dawn, at dawn, or awake before noon?

Awake before noon is my default although when I have been awake before dawn I have felt amazing.

What inspired you or what did you appreciate this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

I was at GIBS for the final block of lectures of the Social Entrepreneurship programme and my classmates inspire me. There is such a diversity of ideas and businesses amongst us all that if we all implemented them, significant inroads would be made in poverty alleviation in our regions.
