Weekendcoffeeshare: A Cake, A Farewell Party, A Band Concert and Feeling Blehh!

coffee

If we were having coffee, you’d have the coffee and I’d have chamomile tea. Sinus bothers have overtook me in the second half of the week and it culminated in me feeling nauseous and with sinus pain that literally drove me up the wall. I like to take care of things to do with health in a natural way. These off course take time. I eventually used an Ayurvedic remedy which helped in double-quick time. And it was natural too. I will not gross you out with the details, and I wonder why I didn’t reach for this initially.

If we were having coffee (and me chamomile tea), I’d tell you why this was the main reason that I didn’t do any A to Z Challenge posts from Friday. I caught all of them up, in a marathon self blogathon this afternoon.

So this week was K to P on Lessons from Behind the Lectern. If you haven’t yet caught up, just go from here:

K is for Knowledge

L is for Leading from the Lectern

M is for Mentor – I got some good feedback on this one. Thank you so much!

N is for Notes

O is for Onomatopoeia and other Linguistic Devices

P is for Preparation

You may remember last week’s cake debacle. Well I had to make it up to my team this Friday. Lisa from Hey Sparky sent me an easy recipe for a delicious fudgy moist chocolate cake and a very special gravy frosting which, as promised, has indeed spoilt me for any other frosting. It was a hit and I’ve been asked to share the recipe. Here, would you like a slice with your coffee?

Loadshedding bowling
Loadshedding bowling

If we were having coffee I’d tell you about my farewell party.  Some weeks ago I wrote about following my passion which means that I am leaving my precious team. We went ten pin bowling at Montecasino and then we had lunch. It is a bittersweet time, and I spent most of  Friday and Saturday in tears.  Due to load-shedding, it took most of the team the better part of two hours to travel about 10 kms. Depending on the route they took the traffic signals were all out. I took a back route and got there in one hour.  Montecasino was also affected and under generator power and the bowling alley was all lit in such a cool blue light. Must be some kind of energy saving lights. I loved bowling under the blue lights and when load-shedding was over and the normal white lights came on it wasn’t as cosy. It did make it a bit difficult to see, but the balls were all sort of colours and I chose a nice bright one.

Middle School Band Concert
Middle School Band Concert

After that I attended my niece’s Middle School band concert. She plays the flute and it amazes me the amount of talent all those kids have. As I listened I wondered which ones would pursue the career of professional musician, or which ones would just drop it once they leave school.

If we were having coffee, I would tearfully tell you that this next week is not going to be easy as it is my last week at my current company. I have been with them for 6 years and 4 months, and they were very good years. I have been with this team for 5 years. I am going to miss them terribly. I will see them again, some more than others. And I still feel sad.

Coffee again next week?

  1. I imagine you won’t be the only one in tears, dear Regina. Glad Lisa’s cake recipe went over so well! How could it not?! Need to get the recipe. God bless.

    1. Thank you! Oh, the gravy frosting is made like no other frosting I know. It’s takes a lot of beating so that it’s light and fluffy. Firstly milk and flour is heated until very thick, then added to the creamed butter and sugar. It’s delicious…
