Due to the timezone difference, I had a long layover in Zurich on my way back from New York. I placed my luggage in storage at the airport, hopped on a train to the city, and promptly got caught up in a demonstration. It was a peaceful one and the cops were controlling the route. So I turned around and went the other way. I actually wanted to visit the old town but ended up strolling along the Bahnhofstrasse to the Zürichsee instead.
Aside: on this particular trip I got caught in two peaceful demonstrations. The other one was in New York on Brooklyn Bridge. It caused such a gridlock of foot traffic with people trying to walk in opposite directions, against each other, that it took me over an hour to get off the bridge.
But back to my Zurich adventure. Zurich is GORGEOUS!
I hopped on to a boat for a cruise around the lake.
The area around the lake is so pretty.
The waters were amazingly clear.
Along the Bahnhofstrasse where my bank account became a casualty of some opportunistic shopping. Not the best place for this, if you know what I mean 😉
I remember having an on-the-go lunch of ice cream. There was a lightness to my step. My energy levels were high due to having snagged a great seat with lots of legroom on the flight (I slept well). In such a gorgeous place jet lag didn’t exist. There was time for that after landing back in Joburg.

Zurich and it’s surrounding areas are gorgeous! The water was very clear, such beautiful photos. I’m glad the peaceful demonstrations in both NY and Zurich weren’t scary or violent in any way. But still not a fun thing to get caught up in I’m sure. I’ve enjoyed your A to Z travels immensely! ❤️ ~ D
Thanks Diana 🙂 – I’m glad you enjoyed the A to Z.
Re the demonstrations, I was a bit fearful of them getting out of hand not from a violence point of view but from a stampede perspective, especially on the Brooklyn Bridge because it gets really narrow in some places.
