Absolute Beauty must be the most popular name for a beauty salon worldwide. A Google search yielded over 3 million results. I got through 10 pages and the links kept on referring to beauty salons from South Africa to New Zealand to Malaysia.
This can only mean like sex, beauty sells. Fortunes are made and spent in the pursuit of beauty.
But what is beauty?
If it’s just the way one looks then it’s a very 2-dimensional view because it is subjective and ignores the fact that we are complex creatures who are more than what we appear to be.
Remember your Mom telling you “Don’t judge a book by its cover?”
Maya Angelou’s famous quote:
“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”
In general youth is revered and is synonymous with beauty.
If I understand the quote correctly then it throws this completely on its head. If beauty is gained through change then older people are more beautiful than younger people.
I like this.
What a profound quote. The changes we go through to bring us to where we are…beautiful.
