Blogging from A to Z: L is for Lisbon

This one is almost a no-brainer for me. Those who know me and have visited the pages of this blog before will know that Lisbon is one of my favourite cities. I love Lisbon and count myself lucky that I visit – often. Just not in the last year and a bit due to you-know-what. My last visit was in 2019 and these are some of the pics I took.

I was quite chuffed with these, taken as the plane was coming in to land. In the middle of the pic you can see the Padrão dos Descobrimentos.

Blogging for A to Z: K is for Kanchanaburi

I’ve posted about the Death Railway and the bridge over the River Kwai before. Today I’m posting photos of the Death Railway Museum and the Kanchanaburi War Memorial.

Both evoked strong emotions – words fail me – that are best described by the quote below by Major A.E. Saggers, Malay Hamlet – June 1943:

“Never have I dreamt that I would see the day when human life would be held so cheaply.”

His words should resonate, still today …

On to happier experiences …. If I had to describe Kanchanaburi and surroundings in one word it would be water. There is water everywhere and where there is water there are floating houses, hotels, restaurants and bars. We spent one day and night in a huge floating house. The beds were hard but the food was delicious. I’d do it again.

We arrived, and it was anchors away. Towed to the far bank of the lake and it was anchors down.
