Weekend Coffee Share: The Carrot Cake Edition

Hello again and welcome to this week’s coffee share. There is the usual coffee, tea and etcetera AND this week there is cake too! This is to make up for the paucity of cake since the start of the year. Gosh has it been more than a month already? Without cake…!

Carrot cake

Chè made his signature carrot cake with cream cheese frosting on Friday and we’ve been feasting on it ever since. With tea. With coffee. With basically anything. It goes with basically anything.

Workwise the week was busy with me delivering training. Yesterday I visited my folks and helped my Mom make her first loaf of bread in the new breadmaker, and today I cleaned my office.

Valentine’s day

Today of course is Valentine’s Day, so happy Valentine’s Day. We don’t celebrate on the day as a matter of principle – we don’t buy into the commercial hype (although this year it has been subdued relative to previous years). Chè and I are contrary about it – we celebrate after – as a matter of principle. Just like eating carrot cake at any time of the day. With tea, with coffee and etcetera. It’s also like spending the day in one’s pyjamas (I’ve never done that <insert angel emoji>) although with the pandemic many people have been doing just that. I read somewhere that retailers saw an uptick in the sales of comfortable clothes and sweat pants in 2020.

I make a point of wearing ‘going-out clothes’ on working days, putting on shoes 😉 and even some eyeliner. I have many good clothes going to waste in the darkness of the closet.

Standing desk converter

I’m thinking of getting a standing desk converter. I invested in a good chair but sometimes I just want to stand and move a bit. I saw one that is versatile in that it also doubles as a couch desk. The online shop is apparently giving one away as a prize so I’m waiting until the 26th to see if I’ve won. If I haven’t then I’ll order it. I’ve got to try.

That’s it for today. How was your week? Tell me all about it.

Until next Sunday, have a wonderful week.

Weekend Coffee Share: The Rushed Edition

Hello hello, come on in. There’s the usual coffee, albeit a late one. There’s decaf too if you’re worried about not being able to fall asleep later. But nothing to eat, again.

If I sound rushed it’s because I’m stressing about training new content starting tomorrow. I’m reading and preparing to ensure I feel confident. I’m not training on my own but pairing with a co-worker who has delivered this course many times. In fact, he’s the one who created most of the content. After I train a few more times I’ll feel like I can lead the training.  But for now, I’m grateful not to be doing it on my own.

As for the rest of the week, how was yours?

Mine was super busy with work and sitting for long periods of time on Zoom. I have a comfortable gaming chair, but I still miss moving around as I used to when I was physically at clients. I’m considering getting a standing desk converter. Do any of you use a standing desk? What is it like?

On Monday I participated in a question and answer session with a group of Scrum Masters at a client in Brazil. The timezone difference made it that the session was at 7 pm my time but I had fun nonetheless. They had many questions about my experience transitioning from project management to being a Scrum Master and Agile Coach – in Portuguese!

Even though I am Portuguese, I do all my training and coaching in English and am well versed in all the technical terms related to Agile. Doing it Portuguese was challenging – I did a whole lot of research of the Portuguese terminology and even wrote passages to help me get into the Portuguese mindset. My brain must’ve connected new synapses in the process. It was rather tiring, but the more I do it, the quicker it will become second nature to me.

Right, I’ve go to go now. I need to continue preparing for tomorrow. Have a wonderful week!

Cheers,

Regina

PS: See you all at your coffee shares.
