MicroblogMondays 42: Overheard on Table Mountain

The top of Table Mountain must be very surprising (pleasantly I am sure) to many people. On a recent visit, I overheard a tourist say to her traveling companion, “I didn’t realise it was so big up here, I thought it was just a lookout point.”

It’s huge up there. There are many trails, long and short, to walk, there is a shop and a restaurant. Che and I spent a whole afternoon up there. I will be doing a more detailed post with pics later.

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway company runs a slick and professional operation. The best is to buy your tickets ahead of time from Webtickets and produce your cell phone for scanning on arrival at the cable station. This will prevent you from wasting time in the ticket queue. I booked that morning for the afternoon of the same day.

Safety was top of mind of all attendants as we waited for the cable cars and a very welcoming Carl chatted animatedly to everyone. The cable car operators were funny and professional. Che and I were pleasantly surprised at how we were treated.

Summed up in three words – professional, friendly, safety-conscious (that’s one word since there’s a hyphen in-between the words ;-))

  1. Oooh, cablecars freak me out. The last one I got on was over 20 years ago. I had to keep my eyes closed through most of it.

    1. This one is the rotating kind. They have an exhibit of the older cars no longer in use and they look decidedly flimsy, those don’t look very secure. To think they actually carried people all the way up …
