Despite the load-shedding, it’s been one huge learning experience so far!

How is this year shaping up so far? Write a post about your biggest challenges and achievements thus far (wordpress daily prompt).

A whole new car without buying a new car. A new job. The Blogging from A to Z. Cape Town…twice…so far! Family. Family. Family.

December 31st, en route to my parents for New Year’s eve and my car’s engine overheated. I regularly check oil and water so the reason for that still mystifies me. Fortunately we were close to my folk’s house so my Dad and brother came out to the highway to give us a tow.

I was without a car for nearly six weeks. The post-engine-overhaul-1000kms-service turned out to be more complex and I was without a car again for another three weeks. I drove Che’s car which meant he was car-less. Fortunately he works from home.

I also drove around with a car the mechanic loaned me, a diesel Jetta, circa 1990 (I think). It sounded like a tractor and the whole street knew whenever I came and went.

During this time I was in the process of changing jobs. I must admit to feeling out of my depth with the transport issues, and it came home to me once again how much I rely on my car and how much it’s part of my independence.

toastmasters-lectern-pic250214-672x372To add a third stressor into the mix, I decided to participate in the Blogging from A to Z Challenge. Blogging every day, for the whole month of April, on a different letter of the alphabet each day. I chose an easy theme (for me) – Lessons from Behind the Lectern (find all the posts here) – about public speaking. I blogged on every letter of the alphabet and I was good about doing it every day – I missed a day or two but caught up quickly.

I’m not too great at following challenges and to have done this one so consistently was an achievement for me – and a great learning experience.

I signed up for this month’s NaBloPoMo but got a bit bored with it. I also signed up for WordPress’s Blogging U for Photo 101 and Poetry 101 and didn’t complete them, again for the same reason.  I did meet and find some new bloggers though which I’m now following. What I like about the A to Z Challenge was that I chose my own theme and daily topic, rather than a prompt. I’m trying the WordPress daily prompt this week and so far so good.

IMG_5748-0.JPGCape Town, Cape Town, Cape Town! Oh what can I say about Cape Town! The most beautiful city in the world by my estimation. I visited in January and again in March/April.

Family is very important to me and I try to spend as much time as I can with them. RC aerobatics place Hot Flash Rui Martins

If you have been reading my posts more or less frequently, all of this has served as subject matter for Wide Eyed in Wonder.

So that’s it for now. I don’t have a nice pithy ending to this post.

What is the state of your year so far?
