Share Your World – October 30, 2017

Hello and I’m back this week. I went out of town last week, chasing my dreams. I came away having completed one more step towards that, greater clarity of purpose, and a bunch of new learnings.

For now, it’s time for Cee’s SYW…today’s edition.

Where do you eat breakfast?

The day is not started for Che and me without having coffee and toast in bed. We take turns doing this, and the person making the coffee and toast wakes the other one up.

Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want have an evening with?

The Lonely Island comedy troupe. They’re hilarious, versatile, brilliant writers and producers of good social commentary using the medium of comedy.

If you could be a tree or plant, what would you be?

I’d love to be an Ent! From the Lord of the Rings! They’re patient, serene, powerful, tall, as old as the trees. Oh wait, they are trees…

Good evening friends!

Lately, I’ve barely managed to get one post out a week, sometimes two. Social Entrepreneurship studies are wrapping up and there’s still a fair amount to do, especially with my Action Learning Project. Oh, and 2 assignments are due on Wednesday.

Then there is work and I’ve also been away, both for work and leisure 🙂

I’m grateful to Cee to come up with such amazing challenges which I’m enjoying participating in. In this post, I’m sharing my world and if you like reading such posts, go on to Cee’s site and check out more entries – just click here.

Right, now for the questions and answers.

Was school easy or difficult for you? How so?

I remember it being easy. I was lazy and left things to the last minute, didn’t enjoy homework and didn’t study enough. I could’ve aced all my subjects but I don’t like studying so…

List some of your favorite types of animals.

Cats!

What is your favorite large city you have been to? What is the one thing you remember most?

San Francisco! The Golden Gate bridge without a doubt. I was gobsmacked when I walked on it. I was finally there. I never thought I would ever visit…until I did. So, keep your dreams alive and work towards them. You will surprise yourself, for sure.

I’m going to Cape Town on Thursday to do a talk, and I know I’m going to come back with more Table Mountain pictures.

Until then…have a great week!

Share Your World – September 25, 2017

Sharing my world this week, via Cee’s weekly challenge.

What is your favorite outdoor activity?

Sitting in the sun, feeling the warmth on my skin, listening to the sounds of nature around me, and feeling the grass underneath. Nothing connects me with the earth more than that simple activity. Even better is if the sounds of nature include running water, or  waves crashing on the beach. The feel of sand beneath my feet also brings about a similar feeling of bliss.

In a car would you rather drive or be a passenger?

Without a doubt, the driver. I love driving, especially long distances. Driving fast, yes, I love that!

If you could have three wishes granted for you alone, what would they be?

  1. Everyone in the world to have a job, a roof over their heads, safety and security.
  2. That all children have the basic right of education.
  3. Everyone to do some form of meditation, from prayer to buddhist to transcendental meditation – it matters not, as long as the whole world did it, just once a day.

I know the question said the wishes should be for me alone. Those would mean that (1) my heart wouldn’t break each time I see a vulnerable person begging on the streets, (2) see number 1 and (3) that I could sleep easily knowing that peace reigned in the world.

What inspired you or what did you appreciate this past week?

I enjoyed attending a Toastmasters meeting again with Che. It has been a while since we went, and I appreciated once again what a quality educational program it has. This set me to thinking about my future and what I want to focus on next. Toastmasters has a role to play.

I also loved the first highveld thunderstorm last night. Thunder boomed, the cats took refuge under the table and the garden was greener this morning than yesterday.

Have a wonderful week everyone!

Mondays Cee hosts Share Your World – this is my world this past week. It’s fun to enter.

What color do you feel most comfortable wearing?

Black mostly, although when I wear pink or white tops I get compliments on my choice of colour. My favourite colour is green and I don’t have too much green in my wardrobe. I’ve taken to wearing sandy tan shades and i feel good in them too, very earthy. But 99,9% black pants, at least.

What is your favorite type of dog? (can be anything from a specific breed, a stuffed animal or character in a movie).

I’m more of a cat person. I have never owned a dog. My nephew’s favourite stuffed animal is a dog called Ruffles which he sleeps with. So cute.

List at least five favorite flowers or plants.

Roses – love them

Ferns – hardy all year round plant and they look good and green all the time

St. Joseph Lillies – they smell so good

Orchids – my wedding bouquet consisted of a purple orchid – so lovely and different to the rest

All trees, especially the ones found in southern Africa, like the acacia tree. It is so evocative of the African bush.

What inspired you this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

The warm spring weather has inspired me to take up my DSLR again which in turn has inspired me to buy a new Kelly Moore camera bag, this time one that can take my laptop too. I have a red B-Hobo right now and it doesn’t fit my Mac.

I’m checking out reviews on youtube and I’ve narrowed the search down to 3. More on this later…watch this space.
