On this day in history:

“The Wright brothers make their historic first sustained, powered and controlled flight over the sand dunes at Kill Devil Hills on the North Carolina coast; “kill-devil” was an old name for rum and the location was once a popular landing site for rum smugglers. The brothers then walked four miles to the Kitty Hawk telegraph office to report their success.”
