In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Brilliant Disguise.”
Soon after starting to date Che, I spent a month in Portugal with my Grandmother and Great-Uncle whom I had not seen for 16 years.
During this time, completely unbeknownst to me, Che decided to not shave until my return. A rather cutely romantic gesture. Everyone else knew about this but did not tell me.
This predates cellphones. Skype apperared many years later. We communicated via land line telephone. Those were the days of postcards although I never sent any.
The first time I saw Che after getting back home I spent a whole evening in his company and not once did I realize he had grown a rather substantial beard! I do not like them at all so you would have thought I would have noticed.
I was none the wiser until the next day when my Mom remarked about Che having shaved off the beard.
Beard, what beard?
Whereupon my family burst into laughter and told me the story.
Did you know that a growing beard makes no sound, at least to the untrained ear?
So happy to be home that everything around you was a blur? Were there leftover pictures from that day of the beard?

Unfortunately there aren’t any pics of that day. Would have been good for a laugh now 🙂
Very good title, by the way!

Thanks so much!
My husband, who was chin, jaw and under nose hirsute when I met him, shaved off his beard 11 years later and I had no idea who he was when I got home and he answered the door!! http://judydykstrabrown.com/2015/07/20/danger-in-disguise/

LOL! Takes some getting used to. No wonder beards are such good disguises.
